  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar and vegetable oil until combined. Add eggs one at a time, then buttermilk and red food coloring; mix well.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients into the wet mixture until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool completely before frosting them with cream cheese frosting made by beating cream cheese and butter until smooth, then adding powdered sugar and heavy cream.
